Who ever heard of Dixie Washington? Who knew that hummingbirds migrate through Dixie Washington in the thousands? Cold, wet, rainy, bad light - and a wonderful day in the backyard of a wonderful man who puts out dozens of hummingbird feeders and lets people traipse all over his property. You could hear them all over - giant bumblebees everywhere. Seeing them was another matter.
Oh my gosh! I just stumbled on your blog and your photographs are beautiful!! I used to live in Richland for a while (1996-1997) and spent a lot of time with "bird heads."
ReplyDeleteGreat place for wildlife watching, indeed!
A friend just told me of this incredible place that has numerous feeders placed outside for the hummers that migrate through Washington State. I live 20 miles from the Canadian border at Laurier. My address is Kettle Falls but I live near the Kettle River on the side of a mountain. Hummers start appearing in April and are last seen early August. My last Hummer was seen on Aug. 30. (very late)At the least I have up to 50 to 100 hummers show up during July at one feeding. 5 to 9 feeders are placed out. I know that some of my hummers must show up at Tom's place when they leave our place.
